Our First Post and the History of our "Furry" Family!

Since I was a kid, I've always loved animals, especially dogs.  Growing up, my family had an Old English Sheepdog named Daisy.  She was the best dog ever!  My Mom ran a daycare at our house and Daisy watched over all the kids.  She was just the coolest dog ever.

We got Daisy when I was 5, and sadly, after my freshmen year of college, she was suffering too much and we had to put her to sleep.  It was one of the saddest days.

Over the years, we adopted a cat.  Well, the cat adopted us.  When I was just getting into high school, she showed up on our back deck one day, and that was all she wrote.  Since my mom said she didn't like cats, but liked this one, she would say, "We don't have a cat.  We have a funny looking dog."  Appropriately, we named her Dog.

Dog was the most laid back, relaxed cat ever.  She lived until Thanksgiving day in 2010.

When Dog died, I was really upset about it.  Derek, my husband, suggested we should get a cat.  Instead of adopting one kitten, we adopted two.  We adopted two boys and named them Doakes and Dexter, after our favorite TV series, Dexter.
When I took them to get fixed, we found out that they were both girls.  We decided to stick with the names.  They rule our house.

Dexter is the grey cat; she loves to sleep all day and clean Doakes' ears.

Doakes is the black one; she is the queen troublemaker.

My husband got a dog when he was in college.  He's a black lab/pit mix named Joey.  He is spoiled and loves to be the center of attention.

Before Derek and I got married, we tried to have Joey stay at our house, but he just didn't like it.  He missed Derek's parents and brother, so we decided to let him stay with them.  Luckily, they live close by so we can visit him a lot.
